|**This is a part-time (28 - 30 hours per week) and one-year limited term position serving as a 4-H Agent Assistant in Chambers County, Alabama.** Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding and Chambers County Extension Office needs. The Agent Assistant will be|
responsible for implementing and coordinating the goals and objectives for the Chambers County 4-H program.
For the County 4-H Program, the Agent Assistant will work with schools and volunteers to coordinate and/or facilitate in-school, after-school, and special interest community 4-H clubs. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: create bi-monthly 4-H newsletter; keep 4-Hers informed about
upcoming events and deadlines; responsible for registering youth for 4-H events, develop day camp opportunities; work with adult volunteers; and maintain frequent communications with volunteers as needed to provide updates and pertinent information. The Agent will also assist in preparing curriculum, implementing youth related programs and working directly with youth activities.
The Agent Assistant will follow and adapt, when necessary, specific lesson plans designed to broaden youth social and cognitive skills through hands-on activities. The Agent Assistant serves as a member of the County 4-H Centennial Youth Initiative Team and assists with County 4-H and Extension activities. Must have good organizational skills to efficiently and accurately maintain records of youth educational sessions and progress, as well as follow the guidelines and policies of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES).
The Agent Assistant will assist and/or work with the County Extension Coordinator and 4-H Foundation Regional Extension Agent in activities that benefit Chambers County youth. Travel to program sites is reimbursed monthly in accordance with Auburn University & ACES policies and procedures.
|Entry into the applicant pool requires a high school diploma or equivalent; at least four (4) years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience; and a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience. |
Effective interpersonal communication and human relations skills; a working knowledge in operating a personal computer (i.e. software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access) are all essential.
The successful applicant must have a demonstrated interest in working with youth ages 5-19 concerning a variety of issues. Must have a sincere interest in working with volunteers and professional staff in an educational setting, and the ability to recruit, train and motivate volunteers while nurturing positive self esteem, decision-making and leadership skills; ability to follow instructions related to work with minimum supervision from professional staff; a demonstrated interest in working with teens concerning a variety of issues related to the challenges of being a teenager. Must show sensitivity to the variety of teen's styles and strategies; must be able to work collaboratively and professionally with families and coworkers; must have a willingness to become familiar with and work within the ACES philosophy and guidelines.
Must have access to reliable transportation.
Desired Qualifications Demonstrated ability working with 4-H programming (Beef Club, Chick Chain, RiverKids, Day Camps, and Summer Camp). Experience working with traditionally under served audiences.
