FLS Monitoring |
August 1, 2014 |
|
We have observed downy mildew (bright yellow spots in upper canopy) in numerous fields. Don't confuse this for frog eye. Downy is not a disease a grower needs to treat for but it is very noticeable when scouting.
We have also observed a few plants with virus-like symptoms. We suspect this is soybean mosaic virus (image). We are also beginning to see symptoms of soybean vein necrosis virus in a few fields. Virus diseases cannot be controlled at this time but they are cool to find in a field because of the odd plant growth patterns and colors schemes.
We detected more FLS in Cherokee and DeKalb counties yesterday, and in Choctaw, Dallas and Pickens counties earlier this week. |
|
I will be monitoring fields in the southwest region today but it appears FLS is a statewide problem this year. Please alert your growers to scout their fields and to consider a fungicide application, if necessary. Ed Sikora. Extension Plant Pathologist. |
