Forage Insect Update

August is an important time to scout forages for insects. This webinar is update on insect pests attacking pastures and hayfields in the Southeast. Delivered by Dr. Kathy Flanders, Auburn University and Alabama Cooperative Extension System Forage Entomologist, this webinar will show where fall armyworms have been reported, and also discuss how to scout for and control insects such as fall armyworm, grubworms,and bermudagrass stem maggot. Lastly, information will be provided on fire ant control materials that are legal to use in pastures and hayfields.

Summer Annual Forage Grasses

The second webinar of 2014 will be the return of Dr. Jennifer Johnson, Auburn University and Alabama Cooperative Extension System Forage Specialist. Warm season “summer” annual grasses are popular temporary forage grasses used by producers during the late spring and summer.  While they have multiple uses (i.e. hay, grazing, silage) there are some precautions when working with these grasses.  Join Dr. Jennifer Johnson as she discusses some of the basics of summer annual grass establishment and management, and addresses precautionary considerations when managing these grasses.
